Is York’s viral chocolate shot worth the hype?
We tested York’s famous chocolate shot so that you don’t have to! You’ve seen it all over social media, but is it really worth the hype?
Where is it?
The viral chocolate shot is available in York, on the Shambles, at Monk Bar Chocolatiers – York’s Longest Established Artisan Chocolatiers!
They use the finest quality ingredients. Alongside their famous shots, they make small batches of over 50 varieties of luxury handmade chocolates.
How much is it?
You can get your hands on a milk, dark, or white chocolate edible cup filled with melted milk chocolate for £3.50 each.
When we first visited in January 2025, the shots were priced at £3.25 – an increase of 25p.
Considering that the price of chocolate has gone up by 15% in the past year (according to the Office for National Statistics), an increase of under 8% seems very fair.
Tip: if you’re feeling generous, you could definitely share one between two people. The first time we tried a chocolate shot, we did just that and left feeling like our sweet teeth had been satisfied.

Is it worth it?
In our opinion, it absolutely is! We’re big chocolate lovers and loved both the chocolate cup and melted filling. Even if you don’t have a huge sweet tooth, the novelty of this still makes it a great experience!
